For readers who might be new to your music, could you introduce yourself and tell us a little about who you are?

Hi guys!! I'm beartheknee or be-tha-ny, and I'm an eighteen year old singer songwriter from Sydney, Australia! | write indie/pop/folk music that people describe as warm, cosy and dreamy about my real life experiences usually with metaphors or comparing different things (or people) and combining different parts what l'm thinking about together.

How did you get started in music?

Music has pretty much always been a very big part of my life. It was my dream to be a singer since I was very young. I've been singing for forever and started singing lessons at 5. I have also done a few eisteddfods and music competitions for bands, choirs and solo here and there. I have also been trained in piano, however I don't play much anymore. Learning piano taught me a lot of music theory and now I am a novice(ish) at guitar as I am still learning, butIi find songwriting to be so fun and rewarding. It's a great emotional outlet for releasing my emotions deepest thoughts, and turning my experiences into art.

You've released songs like my muse, do you miss the moon, and if you think that explore different emotional worlds. How do you choose which feelings become songs?

Hmm, I think thats hard to say because I wrote them so long ago (long before they were released). I don't really "choose" which feelings become songs rather I just left it happen. Whatever I think of impulsively is what I am feeling the most, and I pigeonhole myself into that emotion to try write a comprehensive and meaningful emotional song that explains how I feel.

How has your music evolved since your first release?

I think my music has evolved since my first release through me writing more and more and also listening to different music. When I first started releasing music, my songs were mainly inspired by Clairo and Beabadoobee and maybe Melanie Martinez (more bedroom indie) however these days I listen to more folky, softer pop like Adrianne Lenker, Ethel Cain and Phoebe Bridgers. Recently I have been also getting into the Beatles, Jeff Buckley and Bob Dylan, so what I listen to 100% changes and influences what I write.

Do you have a favorite song that you've written, and why?

Hmmm thats hard to say.... out of all the ones I have released I think 'Every Second Tuesday" and "Will you be at my grave" are my favourites. Probably because they are the most recently written ones and resonate and connect with the emotions I wrote a lot.

You've mentioned indie artists like Beabadoobee and Clairo as inspirations. What about their music speaks to you, and how has it influenced your own sound?

I think Beabadoobee and Clairo influenced a lot of my older music. I really like their indie, raw and acoustic sound of minimal instruments (in their older music), however I wouldnt say they are big influences in my music anymore, but they will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Outside of music, what's something that inspires you creatively — a book, a place, a memory?

I would say what inspires me the most is other people and the world. As well as my own experiences and emotionals, observing the world around me and other people is what inspires me the most. I have a song that is coming out soon and it us about an elderly man in my choir who everyone seems to wrongfully hate, when I think he is just really nice and misunderstood guy. He inspired that song and I write it almost to him and/or the choir on behalf of him. So yeah anything can inspire me but other people and trying to put myself in other people's shoes and experiences is inspiring me a lot these days :)

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and what kind of song would you want to make together?

That is such a hard question. I would love to do a song with Adrianne Lenker, Phoebe Bridgers or Sydney Rose. I would love to do a song with lots of harmonies and adlibs but super hauntingly beautiful and gut wrenching heart pulling melodies and lyrics because I love them so much and look up to them a lot.

And lastly, do you have any message or note you'd like to tell your fans and community?

There's so many things i could say but thank you ALL SO MUCH for making my dreams come true!! Thank you for sticking by me you guys are so awesome and amazing. I appreciate all of you so so much you are all so wonderful I cant believe people enjoy my music as much as l enjoy making it :)
